World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be altered to upgrade an item.
It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can look at the level of an item. It's a sign of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the level of the item.
The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are many theories about how the item level is determined. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and that sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real item level.
However, this isn't the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, as the level of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to motivate them to try out other weapons. The stats of a base weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times at higher prices.
Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or other special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to differentiate them by putting a name on them.
All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it is an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. Similar to base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more useful in early game runs than later ones as most players prioritize greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by 5percent. These items are available in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.
item upgrader are costly and not all upgrades will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.
item upgrader of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..
The luck of an item can influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an average success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5%.
It is important to note that upgrade item s are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
